The Bronze Lady is a sculpture located at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in New York, that has an interesting history. The sculpture sits across from the mausoleum of General Samuel Thomas, who fought in the Civil War and died in 1903. His widow, Ann, wanted something in addition to his mausoleum to memorialize her husband; she had sculptor Andrew O’Connor, Jr. create the Bronze Lady. As the story goes, the widow was not happy with the first product, saying it looked too forlorn. The sculptor created a second head that looked happier, which the widow was satisfied with, but the sculptor destroyed it, saying it would never go on his creation. Widow Thomas passed away in 1944 and lays next to her husband, with the somber Bronze Lady overlooking their final resting place. The story has been a legend in Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown for years, evolving into a creepy ghost story, some believing the statue is cursed and haunted.
