Profile Rock is located in Freetown, Massachusetts. It is also known as “Old Man of Joshua’s Mountain.” The granite rock stood approximately 50-feet high, and appears to have the profile of an Indian head (as pictured above). The Wampanoag tribe in Rhode Island and Massachusetts firmly held the belief that the profile in the granite rock was that of Chief Massasoit, a friend of early Pilgrim settlers. It is also thought to have been a site where King Philip (AKA Metacomet) came to grieve over the loss of land. A large part of the granite structure – the profile – fell in 2019 (the above picture was taken in 2013).
