The oscillograph, now known as an oscilloscope, was used to measure certain vibrations of the body, with each person having their own vibration. Some theorize that spirits could interrupt those vibrations which would announce their presence. The technology of the machine has evolved from vibrations to electronic signals and is still used to this day by a number of industries, including science, engineering, and parapsychology.
